Wasted Appointments & How We Manage Patients Who Repeatedly Fail to Turn Up
Appointments are wasted every day at the Surgery because appointments are booked but the patients do not attend.
This is bad for the patient because they are perhaps missing care which they should be receiving. It is also a waste of valuable clinician time and NHS resources, when other patients could have used those appointments instead.
All patients who fail to attend for an appointment and have not rung to cancel, may be rung by reception staff where they will also be reminded that they have missed an appointment.
We record all appointments where patients fail to attend. We will write to those patients who persistently fail to attend booked appointments. Patients will be warned that if they continue to waste apointments then they will be asked to register at another surgery.
We recognise that there may be occasional circumstancs where patients do not have time to cancel an appointment. However we hope that patients will support this policy, agreeing it is a waste for every one to have appointments booked which are not then used.
